I don't know what I did but I woke up on Saturday a little bit sore in the right side of my back. An uncomfortable niggle that made me take notice. Maybe I stretched too far? Apparently my posture is all a bit wonky so in an effort over the last week or so to start engaging muscles that have been a bit lazy apparently their starting to ask me "what the heck do you think you're doing???" It seems this one in particular decided to be a little more vocal than the rest but me being me I'm not likely to let anyone/thing, especially myself, tell me I can't do something. And I had plans!!!

I was getting new pedals, cleats and shoes and nothing was going to stop me!! I'm very much a novice with a big goal so if you're reading this and you're a biking expert then I apologise for my ignorance if I've got those terms wrong.
Anyway, I went down to the bike shop and got everything I needed, a lovely gentleman changed my pedals and fitted it all for me and then adjusted because the position just felt plain weird so let's ease into it. And then he taught me how to use the cleats.
But apparently cleats can help you go faster, you use different muscles with the whole push pull motion which means you don't tire out as easily AND you can go faster!!! Now that I am keen on because I don't want to be holding anyone up in January.
So I got them and guess what???? I did go faster Easily doing over 30km/hour. It doesn't look like it on my Strava because I was riding along the Esplanade by the sea, there were a lot of people out this was just to try them out and get used to them but it was a beautiful spring day, the sun was shining, the air was fresh and I was loving it. It still turned out to be 18.7km so a fairly decent ride for someone who was just taking it easy and getting used to the new pedals and shoes.
That's right, it was my back!! I don't know what kind of game it was playing but it's the kind of thing my sister would do. Make me think she was being nice and not so bad after all buying me a pair of pretty stilettos to wear to her wedding and then BAM!! As we walk out of the shop she innocently asks me, with an smug look on her face "by the way, did I tell you tell you that the ceremony is taking place on a golf course?" I just happened to be the Maid of Honour so there would be no sitting for me. What did I expect? Shame on me, I'm part of the Jackson family so should've known better.
Anyway I digress. My back was silent so I thought it was all good. But just like my sister who thought she was super clever with the stiletto prank, after I got home my back decided to make it's evil plan known. It sure had a lesson to teach me!! Slowly but surely it got more and more vocal tightening up and squeezing until I actually text my bosses and gave them a heads up that I might not be in the office the next day.
And I wasn't. I spent the whole day with a hot water bottle on my back, feeling sorry for myself and working from home. Mind set shot and it's taken a little while to get back on top of things. But I had the last laugh. I rescheduled my massage appointment from Thursday to that night and that muscle got a good talking to!!! The next day it was a lot better and by Wednesday and Thursday I barely noticed it.
The plan is to get fitted properly as soon as I can but I will be out on the bike this weekend. I've got a ride to prepare for after all.
Watch this space.
