But it was all about the big hill at the end. I've done roads like the Paekakariki Hill (both sides) Blue Mountains, Gurney Road is pretty steep even, Normandale, Maungaraki Korokoro so I was expecting a fairly decent hill. Hhhhmmm.
Nothing like those so I got up no sweat. I'd been prepared so I was pacing myself so I had the energy to get up the hill. So I went up in my lowest gear. I got to the top and asked, "so is the big hill coming up?"
Not to discount the efforts of anyone else but the hills I've trained on were a lot harder. However, I will say this. I don't usually do the hills at home in heat OR at the end of 130kms. So just that made it a challenge in itself. And it was a few km up.
Do you know what though? The group were so awesome, AND let me ride in first to the finish point. That may seem like a small thing but leading the group in was actually an honour and gave me warm fuzzies to be given that honour. Well, it seemed pretty cool to me anyway.
Had a swim in the pool, pub dinner and slept like a log!!!
And at the end of the day we're doing this to raise money for HFF (check out the link in the sidebar for more information). Thank you for reading this blog. If you enjoyed it I would really appreciate it if you shared it on social media.
