Should we starve ourselves to lose weight?
I teach people to eat more to lose more... Yes, you heard correctly... eat more to lose more.
The formula to losing weight is fairly basic... Consume less calories than your body uses/needs regularly. But there's a catch... We're looking for quality calories. Generally you'll find that they are more balanced, for example, nuts have proteins, fibres, and healthy fats. Note that yes they are healthy but watch the coating and how much you eat. Don't eat a whole bag because that bumps up your calorie intake.
Eat regularly starting with breakfast every 3-4 hours 5-6 times a day. What if you eat less, say only 1-2 times a day. For a prolonged period of time I guess you might lose some weight, but at what cost? Your energy levels and moods? If this is a method you're trying or have tried and it was unsuccessful, then I would say that's because your body is hanging onto it's fat cells for dear life because it doesn't know where it's next meal is coming from. If you've been successful then you've most likely lost lean muscle mass as well and chances are the weight piled back on, and then some, because when you reached your goal weight you went back to eating the way you were before.
Remember, it's not a diet we're on, it's a healthy active lifestyle we want to be on - 20% exercise, 80% nutrition and 100% mindset. Focus on that and things will happen for you.
