But, I digress.
I was so adamant that I was not going to get a road bike. I already had a bike that I had bought two years before and that would be fine thanks very much. I'd just make the modifications I could to make it a bit faster and that would be fine. Besides, I still had to pay for my trip, I didn't have spare money to get a brand new bike AS well.
I really appreciate that Wayne was accepting of my decision. He did advise that a road bike would be better but he researched and came to me with some ideas of what I could do to modify the one I had seeing as I was pretty clear I wasn't going to buy a new one.
Other people weren't quite so...held back with their advice.

But then Seb and Zhou offered me a bike to use. Virtually brand new, had only been ridden once. I still have to get pedal's, shoes and the bike fitted but I've been out on it 3 times now. The first time a week ago I really felt it. An old gymnastics injury playing up, have been smashing my glucosamine supplements all week, and no problems whatsoever this weekend.
Anyway, today I did not do hills. I headed in to Wellington as staying in the Hutt Valley it's not long before you hit a hill and I wanted to just go hard.
So I did! Man I felt like a flying machine!!!! At least I did until the man pack in orange and black flew past me in the opposite direction. They were FAST!!! And looked so sleek in their lycra. Now that the sun is out (touch wood) it might be time to whip out the ivory. Beware drivers, you must wear sunglasses when driving near me!!!
So as I was saying, I was a flying machine!!! And it didn't seem like a heck of a lot of effort. I was like a little rocket and for once I was actually passing people!! Not being the one that got passed all the time. That can be a little frustrating at times especially when you get passed by the old man on the mountain bike wearing gumboots!!! HAHA
So to everyone who told me I had to get a road - you were right and I was... well I had made a different choice. But circumstance had it that I was able to be right too so here I am. Watch this space for when I have the bike fit and get the new shoes and pedals it's going to feel like I have wings!!. And after this weekend's ride - I really CAN'T WAIT!!!!
