Simply put something happens, we attach a meaning to it/create a rule, and then we continuosly scan the external environment for opportunities, or engage in behaviours, to confirm our thoughts. And so the cycle continues. We put blinders on so we won't see any other possibilities or explanations. We say things like "I can't lose weight" "I can't run" "eating healthy is too expensive" "I can't bike 50km, 100km, 850km" "I can't afford that" I can't, I can't________I can'________________(fill in the blanks) and of course then your brain searches for confirmation, ignoring information that would prove otherwise.
